Earlier this month saw the fourth annual DIBI (Design It : Build It) international web conference at the Gateshead Quayside’s stunning BALTIC Centre fo Contemporary Art, hosted by the lovely folks at Epic Times. The conference consisted of a half day of implemental and engaging workshops followed by a full day, two track conference, one track for the designers and one for the developers.
Upon entering the main hall of BALTIC’s event space, delegates were met with a gargantuan 40 foot screen with futuristic, TRON-style animations making it pulse with energy. After a rip-roaring welcoming speech by Craig Wilde, the atmosphere was electric as the delegates were hit with the conference’s main day opening keynote from Dan Rubin. Most important aspect of the talk; it featured Unicorns.
The main day featured a whole plethora of inspiring talks focusing on both sides of the web coin, with speakers coming from places all over the globe like Spain and the US. The day was concluded with a roof-ripping closing keynote by design superstar Aral Balkan. The opening and closing parties were animals unto themselves with LEGO build-off tournaments, games and pie, all washed down with a healthy amount of beverages.
David Jeffries, Director of headline sponsor DigitalCity Innovation, on his experience of DIBI 2013: “DigitalCity Innovation is very pleased to have been associated with the DIBI conference this year. The two day event brought together a range of designers, developers and coders from across the region with a variety of backgrounds. We are delighted that the talent we have in the north east was able to be showcased in such a way and we believe this conference will grow from strength to strength as it continues, supporting the North East to position itself at the heart of the digital rejuvenation.”
DIBI 2013 saw 200 delegates from far and wide descending upon Newcastle/Gateshead’s breathtaking Quayside, generating lot’s of connections with its headline sponsors such as DigitalCity Innovation, Sage and Scott Logic.
